Couch to 5K

One of my personal policies has always been, “I do not run unless I’m being chased.” However, with my metabolism slowing and my dress size creeping up, I’ve decided to amend that with, “Still, if I’m ever being chased, I better have some practice at the running part.”

So, I’ve decided to start the Couch to 5K program, which is supposed to get complete non-runners out pounding the pavement in nine weeks. There’s even a week-by-week podcast on iTunes that tells you when to walk, when to run and when to cool down so that you’re not checking your watch the whole time.

Patrick (who runs like the wind and is a great cheerleader) recommended that I sign up for a 5K around the end of the nine weeks so that I have something to prepare for. So on Sept. 29, I’m running at this event.

Stop laughing!
